Drop the butter in the pan and let it melt. Once it's melted, add the garlic and cook it for about a minute. It'll smell really good!

Now, sprinkle in the flour. Mix it well with the butter and garlic until it looks like a paste. This is called a roux and it's the secret to thick sauces.

Here's the tricky part: slowly pour in the milk. But don't dump it all in at once! Add a little, stir until it's smooth, then add a little more. Keep doing this until all the milk is in the pan.

Keep stirring the sauce as it cooks. You'll see it start to get thicker. This might take about 5-10 minutes.
